Japanesque Gilt & Patina Oil Lamp
Bradley & Hubbard c. 1880
This rare and highly unusual oil lamp was probably inspired by the elaborate Oriental bronze vases first seen by most Americans at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. The five-legged base with cast elephant trunk legs confirms its maker as Bradley & Hubbard. The original oil font fitting itself, however, was supplied by G. H. Covell of Broadway, New York.
Unique with its Eastern form and its exotic base, this is a handsome fixture.
